Hormone Replacement Therapy
Hormones, balanced carefully. Hormone replacement therapy has decades of evidence behind it, and years of unnecessary fear around it. We cut through both, and prescribe based on what your body actually needs.
What HRT Is
Hormone replacement therapy replenishes hormones that decline naturally with age, most commonly estrogen, progesterone and testosterone. When levels fall, the effects are wide-ranging: sleep disruption, mood changes, cognitive fog, fatigue, changes in body composition, skin quality and sexual function.
Restoring those hormones to a physiological range, under proper supervision, addresses those effects at their source.
Who It's For
- Women in perimenopause or menopause experiencing symptoms that are affecting quality of life
- Women who have tried HRT before and want a more carefully managed approach
- Men experiencing symptoms of androgen decline (low testosterone, fatigue, reduced drive, body composition changes)
- Patients who have been told HRT isn't for them and want a second, evidence-based opinion
Protocols are built individually, based on labs, symptoms and health history. Options include:
What we prescribe
- Estrogen (topical, transdermal or oral)
- Progesterone (bioidentical where indicated)
- Testosterone (for women and men, where appropriate)
- DHEA and other adjuncts where clinically relevant
We use bioidentical hormones where appropriate and are not ideologically committed to any single formulation. What we prescribe is what the evidence and your labs support.
How a Visit Unfolds
Thorough intake including symptoms, history, current medications and relevant family history. Comprehensive hormone panel before starting any prescription. A written plan explaining what’s being prescribed, the rationale, and what to expect. Follow-up labs at the appropriate interval. Ongoing dose refinement, because what you need at the start is rarely exactly what you’ll need at six months.
Honest Expectations
HRT works. For most patients with genuine hormone deficiency, the response is meaningful and, for many, significant. But it is not instant, and it is not static, dosing requires monitoring and adjustment over time.
We will also be straightforward about when HRT is not the right answer. Not every symptom is hormonal, and not every patient is a candidate. If something else is driving your symptoms, we would rather tell you than put you on a prescription that won’t help.
Common Questions
Is HRT safe?
For most patients, when properly prescribed and monitored, yes, and the risks of undertreated hormonal decline are themselves real. We assess your individual risk profile and discuss it with you openly.
What's the difference between bioidentical and conventional HRT?
Bioidentical hormones have the same molecular structure as those produced by the body. We use them where the evidence supports it and where they’re the right fit for your plan, not as a marketing term.
How will I know if it's working?
Most patients notice changes within four to eight weeks, though full optimisation takes longer. We track labs and symptoms together.
Can I start HRT if I've been told I can't?
Bring us the conversation you’ve had. Guidelines have evolved, individual risk varies, and a second opinion is always reasonable.
